ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo examine the association between domestic violence and mental/general health status among married migrant women at reproductive age.

METHODSA total of 958 eligible married migrant women of reproductive age who were selected through community-based multiple-stage sampling method in one urban district in Shanghai and interviewed in April and May 2010. Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and unconditional logistic regression model were used for data analysis.

RESULTSThe overall prevalence of domestic violence in husbands was 40.0%. Among 5 adverse outcomes related to general health and 6 adverse outcomes related to mental health, exposing to physical or sexual violence in the life time or in the previous year were associated with 2 adverse outcomes related to general health (including often in pain/discomfort and sleeping problems) and 4 adverse outcomes related to mental health (including often feeling nervous/tense/worry, easily getting frightened, crying more than usual, often feeling worthless on herself or being indifferent to the surroundings). Experience of control behavior was associated with 1 adverse outcome that related to general health (often in pain or discomfort) and 3 adverse outcomes related to mental health including easily get frightened, feeling worthless on herself or indifferent to the surroundings, Experience of emotional violence in the previous year was associated with pain or discomfort feelings. Compared with those who had never experienced any violence from husband after adjusting for potential influencing factors in logistic regression models, respondents who had ever experienced physical or sexual violence, control behavior or emotional violence, the numbers were respectively, presented 2.25-3.70 times, 1.94-4.75 times and 2.12 times, more likely to report the above-mentioned adverse health outcomes.

CONCLUSIONDomestic violence was associated with general and mental health among married migrant women at reproductive age, especially physical or sexual violence and control behaviors.

ABSTRACT

Expression levels of TGF-β1 mRNA in renal cortex of control group, diabetic group and taurine group measured by real-time quantitative RT-PCR were (7.0±0.8)×10 -3, (64.4±8.0)×10 -3 and (16.7±2.0)×10 -3, respectively. The corresponding results with end-point RT-PCR method were 0.28±0.12,0.58±0.16 and 0.43±0.10, respectively. Compared with end-point RT-PCR method, real-time quantitative with SYBR Green I was easier, faster, sensitive and specific.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the role of hypoxia-inducible factor-1? (HIF-1?) in the expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) in the pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) under anoxia. Methods HIF-1? and TERT mRNA in the PASMCs were examined by RT-PCR with the presence of HIF-1? inducers (CoCl_2,DFX),inhibitor (FAS,CBZ-LLL) and oligodeoxynucleotides,or under anoxia.HIF-1? protein in the PASMCs was determined by Western blotting. Results Expressions of HIF-1? and TERT mRNA significantly up-regulated under anoxia (0.59?0.07,0.60?0.06) compared with that in control group ( 0.11? 0.02,0.1?0.01,P0.05).Antisense oligodeoxynucleotides invalidated CoCl_2-induced increase in TERT mRNA levels (0.45?0.04) compared with CoCl_2 group (0.95?0.08,P

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of antisense telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) on 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) induced proliferation and cell cycle of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). Methods PASMCs were cultured and divided into four groups: control group (cultured in RPMI-1640 culture medium), 5-HT group (cultured in culture medium containing 5-HT), antisense oligonucleotide (ASODN) group (cultured in culture medium containing 5-HT and ASODN TERT), and sense oligonucleotide (SODN) group (cultured in culture medium containing 5-HT and SODN TERT). The apoptosis of PASMC was observed by fluorescence microscopy with Hoechst staining. Apoptosis and cell cycle was analyzed with flow cytometry. Expression of proliferated cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) was determined by immunohistochemistry staining. Results Hoechst staining showed that apoptosis in 5-HT group (161?33) was significantly higher than that in control group (63?16, P

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the changes of CD62P expression in peripheral blood and renal tissue in aged patients with primary nephrotic syndrome(APNS) and to explore its effects on APNS.Methods:Peripheral blood samples and renal tissues of 36 APNS patients were collected. The number of platelets expressing CD62P was counted by flow cytomerty.Renal frozen sections were coated with fluorescent isothiocyanate conjugated monoclonal anti CD62P antibody. Results:Compared with the healthy control subjects, the number of platelets expressing CD62P in APNS patients was significantly higher.CD62P staining in renal tissues was found in 32 of 36 APNS patients, while the staining in renal tissues was negative in 8 control subjects. In APNS patients, the level of CD62P expression of peripheral blood was correlated with that of renal tissue and both of the levels of CD62P expression in peripheral blood and in renal tissue were correlated with 24 h urine protein respectively. Conclusion:The expressions of CD62P in APNS patients increase both in peripheral blood and in renal tissue;CD62P involes in the pathological course of APNS;The levels of CD62P expression of peripheral blood and renal tissue can reflect the condition severity of APNS patients, thus they have important value in clinic.
